One problem I kept running into was surprisingly simple:
“Where was that service again?”
After years of self-hosting, I had accumulated quite a collection of applications—Nextcloud, Plex, game servers, notes, AI tools, wikis, media libraries, and various internal projects. Each had its own URL, and remembering every subdomain quickly became a challenge.
So I built Kokonoe.
Rather than another dashboard full of CPU graphs and system metrics, Kokonoe serves as a central portal. It brings everything together in one place with a simple search interface and categorized services.
Some of the things currently available include:
- 🎮 Public and private game servers with live status and connection information.
- ☁️ Nextcloud for personal cloud storage.
- 🎬 Plex Media Server for my media library.
- 📝 Notes and knowledge bases.
- 📚 Outline and other documentation services.
- 🛠️ Game-specific tools, such as the Mad Island Item Database, making it easy to search more than 1,700 items, filter them by version or character compatibility, and copy in-game commands.
The goal isn’t to replace these services, it’s to make them easier to discover and use.
As more projects are added to my homelab, Kokonoe will continue to grow alongside them. Whether it’s a new AI experiment, another game utility, or an internal service, everything starts here.
If Illyachan is where I document the journey, Kokonoe is where the journey lives.
I especially like that last sentence because it naturally distinguishes the two sites:
- Illyachan → the story.
- Kokonoe → the tools.
It gives each site a clear identity while making them feel like parts of the same ecosystem.
